Ethan-ism

Ethan has been showing signs of definite maturity. It’s coinciding with his super duper wiggly tooth, his physical growth, and the advancements he’s making in writing his name, counting, etc. Then there are moments that totally bring levity.

I call them “Ethan-isms”.

Tyler is definitely the scrappier of the two boys. Ethan is no stranger to rebellion but he isn’t much of an instigator. If he starts something, it’s short lived and takes little to get him to stop. It’s just not his general nature.

Tyler, however, loves to start a fight. He grabs something that Ethan is playing with or working on and throws it across the room. Sometimes he goes in for a slap. It’s both hilarious and yet requires disciplining on my part.

During these moments, I’ll admonish him and often add “you hurt Ethan’s feelings”. Ethan is no stranger to really milking the moment. However, when his artwork was strewn to the floor yet again by Tyler, he said something today that was beyond adorable.

Through the tears, he was holding his ears and saying “Tyler hurt my earrings”. His hurt was unquestionable. Yet, this adorably incorrect phrasing was a hilarious moment. I had to write it down for future reflection.

Tyler, meanwhile, could really care less and smirks the whole way through picking up the scattered artwork. Mmmm hmm.

Second Ethan-ism of the day? With Ethan talking a lot about the tooth fairy, what she’ll bring, how big she is, etc., I told him how that the tooth fairy brought me money as a prize. I’d save it up for a candy prize or treat. He was in deep concentration about how he’d spend his accumulated prize money. I knew he had to be eyeing the 50 cent machines at the grocery store with those odd little prizes. Or maybe gum. Nope, he has a better idea.

A phone. Yep, he said he’s going to get “a phone like you have, Mommy”. He better hope Miss Tooth Fairy robs a bank right before popping over to our house and that she is in a very generous mood when she does.

Otherwise, a grocery prize will have to do, Ethan!!! Goofball.
