Drawing Nook

I think with two boys and a dog, we could always want for more space. But, more space is also just more room for clutter and mess-making.
In an effort to maximize the family room area, I cleared out all the toys to the boys’ bedrooms. Even with plethora of toy racks, the playing was more about scattering toys than actual constructive play. So, the toys that remain in the family room are the legos, wooden blogs, bristle blocks, a bin of favorite toys (superhero stuff), and coloring supplies. Already this week, the energy feels less chaotic and the playtime is more about playing and less about wreaking havoc. They’ve barely gone into the bedroom toy bins to pull out the random old clunker toys that we need to gather for donation. There is also less fighting.
I saw this paint palette idea from Pottery Barn and tried to duplicate one on my own. It’s definitely flawed but gets the job done. Thanks to John for measuring and installing the anchors. The boys know it’s their own little drawing nook. It’s not cluttered and there is just a table, chairs, markers, and paper. Knock on wood (that hopefully won’t get drawn on anytime soon!), they are only coloring on paper…and occasionally their arms, stomach, and face. Washable is good!
