Blankie…

We are a blankie family. John and I both had them as kids. My baby blanket came to college, to Seattle after we were married, and was accidentally thrown away before moving to AZ. A piece was sewn into my wedding dress and I have a scrap in our wedding keepsake box. Blankies are a special thing! I’d probably still have mine if it wasn’t tossed!

Gradually over the summer, we noticed Ethan was becoming less and less attached to his blankie. It’s a super soft pastel green blanket lined in satin. It was purchased by Nana when we were shopping at Babies R Us prior to learning Ethan was going to be a boy. He grew attached to it over his first year and it’s been his buddy for 5 years.

Over the last couple of weeks, Blankie has sat alone each night. It’s a bittersweet feeling to know he is getting older and more independent. He no longer “needs” his Blankie. Sometimes he’ll grab it for a snuggle here and there so I’m not going to retire it to his baby keepsake box just yet. But it’s on it’s way out of circulation.

Oh Blankie, it’s been a good run. You’ve traveled to CA, AL, MI, and IL, flew several airplanes, never got lost, and kept our little man content at nighttime. Thanks, Nana, for gifting it to him!

I’m glad there is still one Blankie being dragged around-Tyler’s “Ba-Ba”. It was baby gift from Aunt Sue D. It’s welcome to stay as long as it likes! No rushing it’s retirement.
